Apology for Canceling Speaking Obligation

I was asked to speak at a networking meeting, however, was unable to attend. This little note provided a smooth, friendly way to decline or cancel without injuring feelings or closing doors.

Jake,

When you invited me to speak at the Consultant's Forum on June 9th, I told you I might be out of town, although I wasn't certain. Now it's clear I will be traveling, and won't be back.

There's a 10% chance I might return to Denver in time for the meeting, and if so, I'll make every effort to get there. But please, don't plan the program around me.

I hope this doesn't cause you any inconvenience, and I look forward to seeing you again soon.

:B

P.S.—The agenda, by the way, looks great. Count me in on future programs.
