Someone once declined an invitation to my open house and then added, "Please keep me on your list for future events." I liked that. It sounded as if she still wanted to be involved. Since then, I've included similar phrases whenever forced to decline invitations. Hence, in this e-mail, "Let's look for other opportunities to get together."

Ezra,
I'm sorry not to be able to attend your party Sunday. Becky tells me we already have other plans. I would love to meet Lyle, though, and see Tammy again. Gee, it's been years since she and I first met. Let's look for other opportunities to get together.
By the way, Tyrone Hannaman is in D.C. this week, not returning until Saturday evening, so I don't know what his plans will be. You might e-mail the address and directions to him in case he's able to attend.
Thanks, and love to all,
:B
