I was a shareholder in Lincolnshire International, a referral group of similar consulting firms. One of my partners asked me to have lunch with Collin, one of his closest personal friends.
Collin had relocated from New York to Denver, and had homes in Breckenridge [a ski resort] and Cherry Creek [an upscale Denver neighborhood]. Even though I was doing Stu a favor by welcoming his friend to Colorado, I thanked him for the opportunity.

Stu,
I had a wonderful lunch with Collin. He's a delightful person, and I can see why you rank him as a dear friend. We toyed with the idea of telling you he missed the meeting entirely—or that he came across as terribly arrogant and abrasive, but thought that might ruin your day.
We had great fun, established common ground, and will have reason to talk more in the future. Thanks so much for introducing us.
You know how Lincolnshire works—it's all about sharing. So now, besides having a place to stay in Breckenridge, we also have a place in Cherry Creek!
Thanks again,
:B
