Scholarships

I've built my business by giving a lot of it away. The key is to know how much to give. Too many consultants give too much away, and end up out of business. Others don't give anything and are perceived as too money-oriented. Think about giving strategically. If you have twenty billable hours per week, perhaps you can donate two hours to good causes.

In this case, the economy was in a recession. Companies were laying off in large numbers. Many job hunters who needed help couldn't get it. We took this opportunity to provide scholarships to deserving career changers. This announcement created good PR for us.

Dear Friends,

CareerLab is conducting a two-day outplacement (job hunting) workshop on October 30th and October 31st.

We have a limited number of scholarships available for recently unemployed middle managers. (One of our corporate clients is sponsoring the day, and we are adding a few deserving participants of our own.)

Group size is limited to 10, and lunch and materials are provided both days. The courses are tailored to the group, and include these topics:

  • Dealing with feelings
  • Money management
  • Creating a blueprint for the future
  • The job outlook for 200 occupations
  • Creating a job-winning resume
  • Cover letters — mailing to friends and employers
  • Internet job hunting tactics
  • 10 methods for developing job leads
  • Networking and interviewing skills
  • Negotiating salary and accepting a job offer
  • Assimilation into a new organization
  • Ongoing networking campaigns
If you know someone who has recently entered the job market, please pass this note along to them. Anyone interested in attending may call Ferne Washkansky at 303-790-0505.

With best wishes,

:Bill Frank
