Early in my business I was lucky enough to have the world's best bookkeeper. Near retirement, Nora had run the books for a major employer—she knew her stuff. Scratching numbers on the backs of envelopes to explain things, she always had my best interest at heart. When I asked for direction, she often said, "Bill, you can do anything you want. This is YOUR business!"
The Christmas card said, "With all good wishes for a happy holiday, a happy year . . . and all the best things always," and I added the note below.
December 9, 20—
Nora,
You've made a wonderful contribution to me personally, and to our company. You're a superb professional and a terrific person, and I send you lots of love.
