Before Mailing Newsletter Or Sales Letter #2

Before I send a newsletter or sales letter to 50-2,500 friends and acquaintances (my entire network), I show it to about a dozen trusted advisors and ask for their thoughts and ideas.

Most are favorable, some critical. This reply comes from an attorney. She has been my client, and I have been hers. Her legal mind did not see what specifics I wanted from the letter. She needed more detail. Both her e-mail and my reply are below.

Bill.  Nice to hear from you. I reviewed the letter attached to your e-mail. The letter is good, but I am a bit confused. Just what is it that you are looking for? You say that you are going to contact the person, but I'm not sure what you hope to gain.

I think you need to be more specific about what you are looking for, what you think the addressee can provide to you, and how that information would be mutually beneficial (either in the short or long term). I hope these thoughts are helpful. Let me know if you would like to further discuss.

I hope you learned something about us that you didn't know.

I've had some pretty interesting ideas from other friends,
and when I have a letter that is more focused, I'll ask for your comments.
