One of our corporate clients took a new job in a different city, and we traveled to discuss a possible consulting engagement. She was very talkative, and it looked as though she were going to continue the meeting indefinitely. I pleaded "an emergency" and ended the session shortly thereafter. Thinking our disappearance might have offended her, I sent this note. (We got this business and several follow-on assignments.)
July 30, 20—
Dear Diane,
Thanks for lunch on the 29th. It was great seeing you again, and Jackson and I appreciated discussing your consulting needs in detail. I enjoyed hearing about the advances in your career—congratulations on all fronts.
I apologize for rushing out in an emergency—but I did solve a crisis. Looking forward to seeing you again soon.
