Most of our business comes by word of mouth, and we seldom pay referral fees. However, because it was a new line of business, we offered an incentive to MDs who brought clients into our PhysicianCareerNetwork.™ One MD made a referral which resulted in a sale, and I mistakenly forgot about the referral fee. The MD, who had also given a professional speech to our monthly ExecuNet forum, reminded me about it, and we paid the fee in installments.
