One of my consulting partners is a Harvard graduate. He is quoted in the "Wall Street Journal" from time to time, and he has written for a wide variety of publications. Generally, he sends announcements about his writing, first because it makes him feel proud, and second, we might enjoy the article.
In the crush of a business day, it's hard to compose a lengthy e-mail to congratulate a colleague. Still, it's worth saying something, however brief. These kinds of courtesies keep the doors of friendship open, and friends equal consulting assignments [F = C].
