Mr. Lawrence K. Hill

Dear Mr. Hill:

This is perhaps the most unlikely letter seeking employment that you have ever received. Why? Because I am very happy in my present position. It offers the responsibility and challenges I need. I have discretion and authority, plus an opportunity to travel, to take on new projects and to be innovative.

Why, then, am I sending you the attached resume? Simply because the qualities that make me an effective employee require continuing opportunity to grow and develop. I have gone as far as I can developing the office that I head. I realistically acknowledge the fact of future budget cutbacks for local government in general and non-violent activities by law enforcement agencies. Good sense and an awareness of what  motivates me tell me to explore the possibilities of a new work experience.

I hope you will take time to glance through my resume. My background and experience are varied and lend themselves to a wide range of possible applications.

I will call to see if we may discuss how I can be of value to your organization.

With best wishes,

Katherine M. Arnold
